However it is primarily intended for installation in the roof spaces of high large open buildings, such as modern factories and warehouses. To efficiently distribute the cool air, it is fitted with a powerful fan which will project air over 9 meters, this means it is not suitable for buildings of less than 148sq. metres (1600sq. ft.), consider using a portable evaporative cooler instead. How powerful is the fanThe XE1500 uses flash evaporation to cool the air stream. It is a very powerful unit which will cool large area's very quickly. For optimum performance it should be mounted as high as possible, and preferably in front of an air inlet. How noisy is the XE1500?It produces 76dBA. Mounted high overhead in a busy factory or warehouse, it is unlikely to cause annoyance. But in a small or quiet workplace it might, use a portable evaporative air cooler instead. Where should it be positioned? The XE1500 evaporative cooling fan is designed for overhead mounting. Mount it as high as possible, leaving 1m (3ft.) between it and any roof structures, the minimum mounting height is 3.5m (11'6") In buildings with natural ventilation, mount the fan at the intake end with the fan pointing along the longest axis, the fan will cover 9m (32ft.) to 20m (65ft.) depending on conditions. In wide structures, use an oscillator to enhance coverage and circulation. Does the XE1500 wet objects in front of itThe XE1500 produces a fine mist which evaporates into the surrounding air. If objects are placed in the mist they will get wet, this is why we recommend it is mounted overhead and not pointing directly at anything. At high output levels the XE1500 will spit (large water particles in the airflow). We recommend the XE1500 isn't used near anything which could be damaged by water particles. How is it mounted? The XE1500 has a 90mm x 75mm mounting plate, with 4 x 7mm holes on 43mm centres, it is supplied with 2 u-bolts which allow mounting from a 35mm support bar (not supplied). The bar can be attached in line with, or at a right angle to the fan. To prevent drips it is very important the fan is mounted horizontally, do not angle it downwards! Is it suitable for DIY installation? The average user can install it without assistance. The fan, motor, and casing are supplied separately. To assemble them two 1/2in. spanners and a flat bladed screwdriver are required. Do I need a special water supply? An ordinary mains water supply is fine. The only requirement is a minimum water pressure of 5 psi. Attaching a water supplyThe supplied flow meter has a 1/4in. NPT female thread. Depending on the type of water connection (hose, plastic or copper pipe, etc) a suitable adaptor (not supplied) is required. We recommend a stop tap is fitted before the flow meter, this allows the water to be turned on and off without disturbing the setting of the flow meter. How is the XE1500 connected to the electricity supply? The XE1500 evaporative cooling fan is supplied with a prewired 13A plug. We strongly suggest it protected by an RCD. If you do not have an RCD they are available from electrical wholesalers and many high street stores. If it is to be permanently connected to the electricity supply, this must be carried out by a qualified electrician, in accordance with local wiring regulations. Note in the UK, motor overload protection will be required. Can the XE1500 be operated without water?Yes, it can be run without water. I'm getting drips, wetting, or large water particles in the mistLarge water particles or spitting is normal. The density of the fog and the amount of water used are controlled by the flow meter. Particle size and drips are reduced at lower outputs, so it is better to operate the fan at a lower output for a longer period, than turning it on and off at full output. If water is spilling from the fan housing, check the drain tube for blockages. If its clear turn the flow meter down. What maintenance is necessary?Once a year clean the fan blades and check for them for damage. The motor is sealed for life, just spray a little oil around the shaft where it exits the motor body. Dismantle and clean the flow meter and filter. What storage precautions I should follow? The XE1500 must be protected from frost.Water expansion due to freezing will cause serious damage. Damage due to freezing is not covered by the warranty. Is there anything else I need to be aware of?Like all other types of evaporative cooling, it is very important a constant supply of fresh air is available. Keep doors and windows open. Can I use Activair polythene ducting with the XE1500?The XE1500 can be used with upto 150ft. of 27in. L/F Activair polythene ducting. The XE1500 produces a very fine mist, when used with ducting water collects in the bottom of the duct. Drain holes in the bottom of the duct allow it to drip out. Is the XE1500 suitable for automatic operation?Yes it can be controlled by time switch, thermostat, or humidistat. Installation of such controls must only be carried out by a qualified electrician. Is there any risk of legionnaires disease? There has never been a recorded case of an XE1500 causing an outbreak of legionnaires disease. However there are some basic precautions that you should take.
